Heritage Living

Like many people out there, this year has brought more than a few changes to my daily life. As a wedding planner, things haven’t slowed down, per se, but my time has been focused on moving many weddings to future dates, opening up my summer, which would otherwise be filled with floral arranging, rehearsals and weddings. Thanks to quarantine, I’ve also been home more than I ever imagined (admittedly I’m a total home body, but this is a lot, even for me)

I got to thinking about new endeavors and projects. Was there anything out there that I’ve been wanting to explore? Any goals that I’ve been putting off? Anything new I wanted to learn?

I miss having a blog just for “fun”. Though I love the idea of keeping a blog as a sort of journal, I gravitated to the idea of focusing it down a bit from just daily life. Then of course, self doubt creeps in… are blogs even a thing anymore? Isn’t this what instagram is for? Would anyone even want to read what I have to say?

But I decided, the beauty of a fun project, is that all of these things don’t really matter! If I’m missing having something to write about and I want to create a blog around a couple things I love, that’s enough of a reason to get started.

So what do I love? (Great question!)

Aside from spending my time playing with beautiful flowers, designing formal weddings, and my little family (including one particularly precocious toddler who rightly steals the spotlight…)

I’m an old soul.

I’m a lover of all things vintage, old fashioned, classic or passed down. If it came from a previous generation, you can bet, I’m a fan. We live in a home that is just shy of 100 years old. It’s filled with (a few too many) antiques and family heirlooms. And I am often passing my time digging into old family recipes either from our own family or traditional recipes hailing from some of my favorite places. Recipes with humble beginnings are especially a favorite - think French Country or Southern Soul Food.

These are the things that I hope to share on the blog. House projects and renovations, inspiration from previous generations, preserving the past and remembering family through their recipes.

I’m also hoping that this can become a platform to not just share from my own heritage, but to try and share other’s family recipes, traditions, and stories!
