Early Friday Round Up - Election Edition

With the election around the corner, political tensions are running high. It feels like this year is more important than ever to educate yourself about candidates and to go vote! It's crucial to vote in local elections as well, not just our presidential election.

I have to admit though, I’ve been feeling a little on the brink of overwhelm with the political commercials, debates and overall divided opinions.

I’ve found a few things that lighten the mood while still keeping with the spirit of our election week. In a way, taking my mind off the current election has helped to remind me of the bigger picture. There are some phenomenal people who have done great things for our country in the past and I sincerely think that regardless of the election outcome this year, our country will persevere and grow stronger together in the future. (I also love learning about the human, inperfect sides of some of the people we hold up on pedestals. Aren't we all flawed? Maybe showing more grace in our current climate would go farther than insults... but I digress...)

Here are some of my current political distractions: Relive the days of Camelot with this Vote for Kennedy sweatshirt inspired by his original campaign pin, from one of my new favorite shops, Kiel James Patrick.

I love these vintage banners from Oxford pennant – Continue the neighborly support and love that so many shared from their home earlier this year with the “Together” banner hanging on your front door or in the window.

If following the next debate isn't at the top of your watchlist, CNN has a great new series on first ladies. The series gives you a glimpse of the women behind our country's leaders and how each woman has chosen to redefine this role and honor her husband's term and legacy.

On the Basis of Sex is a biopic about Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the start of her career. It’s inspiring to see how hard she pushed to become a lawyer and make a difference.

Last, Barack Obama’s new book is available for pre-order, available mid-November. I’ve been waiting for this book to be released since finding out he wrote it at the same place Matt and I honeymooned (sadly not at the same time). Regardless of your political views, Obama was a historic president for our country and such a great speaker. I’m so excited to read his thoughts on the path to the White House and his time as our president.
